Downloading and exporting your data
Cleanbox stores your message metadata, raw emails, and attachments. Here is how to access and download your data.
Downloading individual messages
Every message within your retention period can be downloaded as a raw EML file:
- Go to Messages and open a message
- Click the download icon
- The file downloads as
.eml— the standard email format that can be opened in any email client (Outlook, Thunderbird, Apple Mail, etc.)
The EML file contains everything: headers, body, attachments, and the full spam report.
Downloading attachments
If you have Cloud storage enabled:
- Go to Cloud
- Browse by contact to find the attachment
- Click Download on individual files
Attachments are also accessible from the message preview under the Attachments tab.

Data portability (GDPR)
Under GDPR Article 20, you have the right to receive your personal data in a portable format. If you need a full data export that is not available through the dashboard, contact support@cleanbox.app with your request.
For proactive data protection, consider using a custom domain for your aliases. If you ever leave Cleanbox, your domain and all addresses on it stay yours — you can point them to a different service without losing your email identity.
