Setting up rate limits and delivery windows
The Rate Limiter and Delivery Snoozer control the volume and timing of emails reaching your inbox. Together, they tame noisy aliases without blocking senders entirely.
Rate Limiter
Caps how many emails an alias can receive within a time period. Excess messages are silently dropped.
Setting up
- Open the alias, go to the Shield tab
- Enable Rate Limiter
- Set the maximum number of emails
- Choose the time window: per hour, day, week, month, or year
- Save
Examples
| Scenario | Limit | Window |
|---|---|---|
| Shopping site daily promos | 3 | Per week |
| Forum notifications | 5 | Per day |
| Monitoring alerts | 1 | Per hour |
Rate limits are tied to a specific contact on the alias. You can set multiple limits per alias, each for a different contact.
Delivery Snoozer
Sets delivery windows — days and times when emails are allowed through. Messages outside the window are held (status: snoozed) and delivered when the window opens.
Setting up
- Open the alias, go to the Shield tab
- Enable Delivery Snoozer
- Set the days (e.g., mon, tue, wed, thu, fri)
- Set the time range (e.g., 08:00 - 18:00)
- Save
Examples
| Scenario | Days | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Work alias — business hours | Mon-Fri | 08:00-18:00 |
| Newsletter — morning digest | Mon-Fri | 07:00-08:00 |
| Shopping — weekends only | Sat-Sun | 10:00-20:00 |
You can set multiple snooze windows on the same alias. Snoozed messages are never lost — just delayed.
Delivery windows use the timezone set in your account settings.
Combining both
When both are enabled, the snoozer is checked first (is it within a delivery window?), then the rate limiter (is the quota exceeded?). A message must pass both to be delivered.
